I think my writing skill improved better than before. I have written essay first time. I didn't know how to write essay. But now I have written argument essay and process essay. During composition class I have experience peer editing. I knew what was my fault of writing and my week point of writing during peer editing as well as I should represent my thinking through writing. After peer editing, I could arrange my thinking and could represent my thinking to writing well.

If I want to write essay well, I should read books more and more and I could use academic words well. I should practice to make good sentence as like I read sentence from books. I think writing is important because I can show my thinking through writing. So I should do brain storming before writing. I choose main topic first and then I should think supporting sentences and good examples. If I can be possible, I should find good citations. Abundant supporting sentences make reader to understand well.

Korean foods are delicious and healthy foods because we cook Korean foods with fresh ingredients. Every ingredient has a purpose and most meals have a tradition. There are special meals for every Korean holiday. These holiday foods have significance and sophistication. And Korean foods have also good appearance and are easy on the eyes. I like to introduce how to cook Japchae among the Korean foods. Japchae is also healthy food and need fresh vegetables and some of meats.

1. Prepare the following tools - Big sauce pan, Fried pan, knifes.
2. Prepare the following ingredients - some of sliced raw meat(300g), eggs(3), pyogo mushrooms(300g), dried mogi mushrooms(200g), spinaches(200g), paprika(2), carrots(1, big size), dried Chinese noodles(we call "Dangmyun", 300g), onions(1, big size), sesame oil, sugar, and soy sauce.
3. Soak the pyogo and mogi mushrooms in warm water for 20 minutes. If you didn't prepare the dried, you don't need to soak the pyogo mushrooms and go next step. But you can't fin any dried mogi mushrooms, so should soak the mogi mushrooms.
4. Slice the pyogo mushrooms into 7mm thick and mix soy sauce, mushrooms together.
5. Slice the mogi mushrooms into small size like as quarter size.
6. Slice the onions.
7. Slice the paprika into 5cm long.
8. Slice the carrots into 5cm long. You can use the chef's knife.
9. Slice the meat into 5cm and mix soy sauce(3T), sugar(1T), wine(2T), and sesame oils(2T) together.
10. Boil the water(2cups) and put the spinaches into the boiled water for 1minute and take spinaches out of water and put the spinaches into cold water. Wring the spinaches and mix salts91t), sesame oils(2t) together.
11. Fry the all of vegetables from white to dark with salt(1/2t) - start to fry onions, carrots, red paprika, green paprika, and mogi mushrooms.
12. Fry the sliced meats. After fry the meats you can get some of soups, so you should fry the pyogo mushrooms with the soups.
13. If you finish frying all ingredients, wash dried Chinese noodles("Dangmyun") and boil the water using big sauce pan. After boiling the water, put the dried Dangmyun into hot water until Dangmyun change to transparency. On the way, add the sesame oils(3T), soy sauce(4T), and sugar(2T) into pan and mix together. Oil makes Dangmyun not to stick together. If the water is disappeared, put all of vegetables and meats into Dangmyun.
14. Add sesame oils(4T), soy sauce(3T) and sugar (3T) into Dangmyun and mix up together. Dangmyun are very hot, so be careful. You had better to use the hands wearing the vinyl glove to mix up together.
15. You can eat Japchae hot or cold, but I like to eat hot Japchae.

I think that exercise is better than plastic surgery for several reasons.

First, plastic surgery is dangerous. It need to put under anesthesia, but sometimes someone didn't wake up from the anesthesia. It's so big surgical operation.
But people think it is light, because so many people have done.
If you want to do plastic surgery, you should go to big hospital which have many professional doctors.
Exercise is also dangerous.
For example, when we throw down while riding a bicycle without helmet, we can hurt head and brain. It is so dangerous. But we can protect head and brain easily when we take the helmet.
So we can avoid the accident which occurs during exercise.
And we feel happy after we finish to do exercise and we are dripping with sweat a lot.
It is so natural. Natural is better than artificial.

Second, plastic surgery need lots of money. But exercise doesn't need the money.
If we go to the gym, we should pay the money, but it's smaller than plastic surgery.

Third, the result of plastic surgery is not always good, sometimes we may meet different result even though we discuss with doctor many times before doing plastic surgery.
But, the result of exercise is always good. Other people can always recognize me after exercise.

According above reason, we had better to take a exercise and we can lose a weight before summer. We will meet in the beach after we get good shape of body.

A father's love for his son is amazing.

It's very inspirational and it touched my heart.
They are truly amazing team and complete and unconditional love of father.
Tears all over my face. I can stop my tears, he teaches me how to be a parents!
What a great human being and a great dad Dick Hoyt is.
Make us realize how much our family mean to us.
I think where I am, and also think about my children and my parents.
I can not represent my love to my children and parents.
I remind to give my love fully to my children and parents.

Journal #12 Should girls ask boys out?

Yes, of cause. As a matter of cause, the girls should ask the boys out. The men like to show the man is man. So they want to lead the girl on dating. But they feel to be tired when the man lead the dating every times. Sometimes they want girl to lead where they are going and what do they do. This was same a long time ago.

But, nowadays girls are stronger than boys in several sides. So it is more natural. If a girl lead the dating sometimes, propose is part of the boys a long time ago. But recently a girl selects the boy and proposes to the man. It’s a trend of the social situation in the world.

A long time ago, the man like a docile an obedient wife. But nowadays boys like the elder girls. And they are to become obedient.

Journal #11 Spring Break

I had no plan during spring break because my children should go to school.
We have different day for spring break. I'm so sad. I had a plan to travel during spring break before I knew that. I wanted to go to San Francisco or Yosemity National Park.

But, my children like that I have the spring break because I support everything to them.
Usually I left home earlier than my children in the morning.
But I could say "Have a good day" to children who left home to go to school, and I prepared their snack which they are going to eat after come back home from the school.

On Thursday, I went to Desert Hill Premium Outlet with Jasmine and Yukiko. There were very big markets. I could not look around all of them, so I chose some of brands. All of my family thought today was my birthday. And I was happy because I could speak English with friends alot. I felt that I need to make a friend to speak English because my English speaking skill is incresing during speaking more and more.

Journal #10 Exciting Sports Event

Now World Baseball Cup(WBC) is held in America.
They had the pretest in their continents. So Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan had the pretest, and Korea and Japan were winner in pretest.
During the pretest, Korea and Japan had the games twice.
The first Japan won 14:2 against Korea. The second Korea won 1:0 against Japan.

The main games are held in America. And Korea and Japan had the third game in San Diego. Korea won and they had the fourth game before final match and Japan won.
Korea and Japan had the final game in L.A. Dagers stadium.
The final game was so exciting and their match was a neck-and-neck game.
Finally Korea lost the game. ESTN reporter spoke in the highest terms that they had good match.
Most of Korean said about WBC final game more and more because they had a unsatisfied feeling.

Journal #9 Mid term of ALP

I chose six classes in this semester as reading, composition, oral communication, American prononciation, advanced vocabulary, and IBT speaking and listening. Because my level is advance, there were a lot of homework and testing. I have no time to study at home, because I should take care of children, but I followed the teachers, my skill of English is improved.
The good thing is that I am not nervous to read the English book or magazine any more.

It is still difficult to speak prononciation of English. On American prononciation class I took the same test twice at first and middle, the results were same. The wrong answers were same. Some of students were improved a lot. I will start again, I should know what is problem, what is solution, and what is the best way to practice.

There are Learning Center at library of CSUF. Some of student have the tutor through the Learning Center, and practice English a lot. I had better to take a long time to practice English. So I ask to the Learning Center, I have the chance to study English with the tutors.

I have had experience to write many times in composition class, so my writing skill is improved than before. But I still didn't use the academic words which I learned through the classes like as reading class, vocabulary class, and composition class. So I have to try to use the academic words, and do more practice writing the journals.
I said to my daughter to write the dairy journal every day, but it need to me. And I also need to study how to write the business writing and academic journal or papers. And also how to write the e-mail to professor, boss, and customers politely.
Reading is good to write the journal. So I need to read a book or other journal. In our class, we had a chance to peer editing. It's good to practice for writing.

To Be a Good Parent

We stay at home more than a school, so children learn at home more than at a school. It is reason to have to be a good parent. To be a good parent is difficult, but we try to do. In order to be a good parent, parent expresses love and affection to the children every day. Some of Asian parent doesn’t greet and not be smile. Parent should listen to children a lot. Sometimes parent just say alone, don’t listen. Parent can find the problem during the listening. Parent keeps the privacy of children. According this children learn to live with neighborhood.
Parent spend a time with children usually, it's not one time. Parent doesn't compare the children to others. Each child is individual and unique. But, parent sometimes compare the children because of greedy of parent. Parent should find children's ability, and grow up the ability.

Man and waman got married and have a baby. So, they become the parents naturally. But to be a parents need to study and have a effort a lot. The children are mirror of parents. Parents do correctly, then children follow the parents.

Journal #7 TV show

When I was in Korea, I used to watch the drama at 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The drama for adult was several topic like as love, action, gamble, traditional food and fantasy and so on. The actors and actresses are very famous in Asia. Many of people likes Korean drama. So lots of Japanese people visit the Korea and go around the places which are in drama.

When I have been in America, I used to watch the animation for children with my daughter and son. PBS station makes many animation for younger children who can learn the English. And my son likes "Sesame Street" in the morning. The big doll and child are singing and playing which are interested for preschool student. I can also study the English for that program.

Sometimes I watched the American drama like as "Grey's Anatomy". There are several situation in hospital. So, heroes are the doctors and nurses. And I used to watch the cooking program on Saturday afternoon. I didn't understand all of them, because I didn't know the name of ingredients and cooking materials. But I enjoyed the cooking program. I love to cook.

I went to Korea during this week. My mom took care of my daughter but she didn't want to take care of my son, because my son was very active and out of control except me. So I went to Korea with my son.

It took 13 hours from USA to Korea by airplane, and 10 hours from Korea to USA. There are several path to plane. I don't know how they choose the path. I left on 00:30 and arrived at 7:00 AM, then I slept well in airplane. So I didn't feel the time difference. And recently there are private screen and control system, so I and my son chose different movie and music. I enjoyed the airplane trip.

But I worried about classes. I didn't want to be absent, because it was hard to keep the schedule and contents of classes. This semester was so hard to me, because there are lots of homework and quizes for all of classes. One week is very short time to visit Korea, but one week is very long time for absence of classes. I need to have a time to make up the classes.
I can do it!!. Don't worry.

I visited the USA many times but everytime was very short time as 1 week or 10 days. So I had a dream I live in USA for long days as all most 1year or 2 years. Now I have had my wish.

I don't think here is strange because there are lots of Korean, Korean Market, and my relatives.

Only I meet the foreigner and speak English in the CSUF. Of cause, my neighborhoods are American. They have the blondy hair and white face. But I can't greet with my neighborhood. I don't have the chance. I want to join the parent's meeting of classmate of my daughter. But I am afraid of that because my English is poor. Everyday I pick up my daughter, I see the parents of student at that time. But I haven't greeted any parents. I need the confidence to greet first.

Recently I have knitted the shawl. It's the donation for my daughter's school. If I didn't anything for donation, I should pay the money. It's so different. In Korea, donnation is just voluntary, but I think it's good for parents to join to school. Mostly parents have the responsibility for children's school, so the parents know what do they do.

Anyway, I enjoyed the life in California, and I don't have the homesick, so I feel here like as hometown. If I do speak English fluently, everything is good.

Journal #4 Practice Taekwondo

When I arrived the America, I decided to practice the Taekwondo.
I thought my childred need to practice something to exercise. I found the Taekwondo.
In America, everytime I pick up my children to go to somewhere.
Every parents waited their children to finish the exercise.
It took one hour.
And I had no time to exercise alone because I left my children at home themselves.
So, I decided to exercise Taekwondo with my children.

Everytime I am nervous to exercise Taekwondo with children.
The adult is only me. It's not adult class.
But I am hard to play Taekwondo, I have to be a model to be good at Taekwondo.
I go to Taekwondo three times everyweek.
I hope it is good exercise for me to have a good health.

I will stay in California for 2 years. After then, I will get the black belt.
The fee of the test is very expensive. If I will take the test for black belt, it's 500 dollars.
But, I want to get the black belt.
Now my kick mothion is poor and short. But I have to practice more and more, and then
kick motion will better and I will get the black belt.

My first daughter's birthday is Nov. 19th. My birthday is Nov. 24th.
When I met my birthday after havng the new baby, I was thankful to my mother.
The experience of having the new baby was very surprised and suffered.
I didn't know that. So, I called to my mother and said "Thank you very much."
My husband knew the suffering of me, he prepared the special gift.
I was made impression on his gift.

After that day, whenever I have met the my birthday, I thank to my mother.
And I also prepare the gift for my mother.

I have some relatives in Orange County. We often have a dinner together. At that time, they watched the American football on the TV usually. So I wanted to be interested in American football. But I did'nt know the rule of the game. Then I did'nt understand the game and I was boring. I had to learn the rule of the game before Sunday to enjoy the Superbowl. The Stater's brothers which is chain store near my house especially arranged the beer and chips for Superbowl before some weeks ago. It's so interesting.

Another interesting is the player of Pittsburgh who is Hines Ward. He was MVP of Superbawl three years ago. He is half of Korean so he is also hero in Korea. His father was soldier and serverd in Korea. He is good player of this season and expected player at this Superbawl game. He has the nickname "Smiling Assassin" because he have always been smiling even while he was tackled. To watch the Superbowl game is first time in my case. It's so exciting. I watch the advertisement during the game. Because I heard the big company makes the special advertisement for Superbawl game. I like the cosmetics, foods and accessories advertisement in my hometown. It's also interesting to find the difference between American advertisement and Korean advertisement.

My name is Hyunah Lee. You call me Hannah, because Hyunah is difficult to pronounce for foreiner. I came from South Korea with my children.

I arrived at California on September of last year.

My major was computer science in university in Korea. I worked on software company for twenty years. My job was so hard. I was director of customer service department for technical support. We have 300 customers. Every day I worked overnight.
I thought about my life. What will be important?
So I quited the company and I persuaded my husband. He gave me the vacation for two years and I decided to study English with my children. I searched the program to study English. Finally I found the ALP in CSUF.

My daughter is eleven years. She go to the private elementary school in Cypress. They traditionally have the specific class which is opened in library. The teacher of library guide the grade of reading power of student individually. They pressure the student to read books a lot. I think I also read books same method. But it is difficult because I have no time. I take care of children and two nieces.

Anyway we don’t want to immigrant to America entirely. I will go back to Korea after two years. The opinion of my husband was that it is difficult Asian to be majority in America. He doesn’t want our children to become minority. But I think he will be changed because the President of America is Obama. He is black. So there will be lots of changing of society in America. But then Asian will be president next and next of black in America.

A Memorable Trip in My Life

My family went to Australia in 2005. We visited a horse farm.
It is located near Sydney. It took fifty minutes from Sydney by helicopter.
It was my first flight by helicopter. We also went to Philip Island.
We arrived on Philip Island at 4:30 because we were going to see the
penguins who come back to the grounds, from the sea, after sunset.
It was a wonderful scene. There were many groups of penguins.
One group consisted of about 10 penguins and a leader.
Every penguin followed the leader. They were afraid of people.
They felt people's presence, so they stopped.
After they felt safe, they continued to go to their house(?).
They are about 30cm high. There are hundreds of thousands of penguins.
I hope I will go there again.

Fictional Character - "Scalett O'Hara Doll" Gone with the Wind

I choose the Scalett O'Hara Doll in the movie "Gone with the wind". She was proactive and created her own life. At that time, woman was usually shy and became housewife. And man first proposed the waman to get married. So usually woman had a passive life.
But Scalett made her life herselves. She proposed to Ashley Wikes. But he refused the propose. Scalett didn't disappoint. Because of Civil War, there were no men in her family. So she did everything in the farm.

The Life of Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa was born in 1910 in Akopje, Kosove in what is now the Republic of Macedonia. A little is known about her childhood, but she felt a calling to serve through helping the poor person at a young age.
At the age of eighteen, she was given permission to join a group of sisters in Ireland. At first she went to India after a few months of English training.
At Calcutta, India she worked as teacher. But she received a calling from God to help lots of poor people, and she make a new order called "The Missionaries of Charity". They took care of poor people, who were homeless, starving and affected with AIDS. They now have branches throughout the world. In 1965, the Society became an International Religious Family by a decree of Pope Paul VI.

During her life, Mother Teresa was given some of the most special awards throughout the world. These include:
- Pope John XXIII Peace Prize (1971)
- KennedyPrize (1971)
- The Nehru Prize - "for promotion of international peace and understanding" (1972)
- Albert Schweitzer International Prize (1975)
- The Nobel Peace Prize (1979)
- States Presidential Medal of Freedom (1985)
- Congressional Gold Medal (1994)
- Honorary citizenship of the United States (1996)

Mother Teresa accepted the Nobel Prize if they didn't have the conventional ceremonial banquet, so she was given the $6,000 funds to the poor people in Calcutta.

The Vatican began the process of beatification, which is the second step on the way to canonization and sainthood. Mother Teresa was a living saint who offered a great example and inspiration to the world.

My Experiences in California

I arrived in California at September, 2008.

I came here with my children.

I decided in my daughter's school in Korea, but I could not find any information of my son's preschool. So I look around some of preschool near my home.

I wanted to get a driver's license to ride my children. So, I visited Westminster DMV, and I did written test. Oh, I heard someone, who checked my test, said "You are perfect!".

After 2 weeks, I did driver's test on road. Finally I passed the driver's license test.

But I don't receive my plastic license card from DMV now. I have to check what is wrong.

There are a lot of Korean markets. I have been Korean market per a week, and I have bounght some vegetables, fishes, chickenes and cookies for children.
After 3 weeks, I have been CSUF for level test. It was starting time on ALP.
I have 3 weeks in ALP. It's good day, but it's very busy for me. I have homework every class.

Introduce Myself

My name is Hyunah Lee. My father gave me the name. The meaning is wise and beautiful. I think he wanted me to become that. I am trying to be that. I was born in South Korea. I graduated from Sogang University in Korea, my major was computer science. After I graduated, I worked at a software company for 20 years. My job was to help our customers make good IT Systems like Internet Banking System, Cyber Trading Sytstem and MIS etc.

My family has 4 persons. They are my husband, son, daughter and me. Last month I arrived in the United States with my children. I wanted to live in another country for 2 years. There are some relatives at Orange County. So, I chose to live in the United States. If I enter the United States, I need the visa. So I have to study in university to get the F1 Visa. My daughter also has F1 Visa. She went to private elementary school. My son went to preschool. But my husband works alone in Korea. He has to make money. I will go back to Korea after 2 years. I want to my husband to visit us many times.

My first impression of ALP is so good. I have had a long break time to study in school. The teachers in ALP give me motivation for sudying. I decided in my mind to be happy to study English.
